Softwaretool for Optimizing the Computer setup for people with visual handicaps

Background
Computers as communication media and essential working platform can’t be excluded today from the everyday life of people with visual handicaps too. However objective and standardized procedures, which seize principles and recommendations for the correct ergonomic requirements of workstations for people with visual impairment, were not available up to now.
Problem
Due to the most different Symptoms of eye diseases, a completely individually suitable screen configuration and an ergonomic work place layout must be determined for each individual of this target group. To evaluate this individual requirements is always a very time-intensive process. Also the quality of the consulting results essentially depends on the experiences of the respective advisor and partially also on the number of available computer devices.
Result
SOBES is a dialogue-oriented diagnosis software for evaluating the ergonomically optimal setup of computers for visually impaired people. This software provides several tests to evaluate the best configuration of the relevant video computer setup. This software considers the individual symptoms and the opthalmological findings of the client. The consulting procedure can be guided by the software. The achieved results are now independent from the consultant and more objective. Finally the results will be generated into a report. This project was carried out with ACTO in Aachen, which supported the project from the scientific and medical aspect.
